Sustainable Success
The Office Properties of Toronto Eaton Centre have made significant progress as a sustainable community, with even more expected in the future. Below we’ve highlighted a number of projects and programs that have made us one of the greenest business communities anywhere.
Zero Waste Challenge: Our recycling efforts have demonstrated remarkable success over the past decade, but in 2009 we made the decision to become the best in the industry. With the launch of our Zero Waste Challenge, we asked our team as well as out tenants to make best efforts to reach a 95%+ diversion rate with all office property waste. At the end of 2010, we reached a 90% rate on average in each of our office properties. That means that of all the waste that is produced in the course of a day, including construction waste, 90% is recycled back into the production chain, leaving only 10% to landfill. We’re on our way!
- Occupancy Sensor Installation Program: A five year program to install occupancy sensors for lighting conservation in all three office towers is nearly complete. Motion sensor lighting technology automatically switches lighting off/on as people exit and enter rooms. Already, significant savings in electrical consumption has been recorded in completed areas.
- Bulb Replacement: All bulbs are being replaced throughout the complex. Replacing 32 W T bulbs with 28 W T bulbs will conserve energy without effecting illumination.
- Eco Friendly Washrooms: Low flush toilets have been installed throughout the complex. With the use of low flush technology, approximately 12 litres of water are saved per flush. In the men’s washrooms, the installation of low flush urinals will save approximately 6 lites of water per flush.
